History
The Market Street Singers, named for Ballard’s “Main Street,” debuted in the summer of 2004 for a Ballard ARTwalk. News of a new community choir for Ballard spread quickly, drawing 35 singers who pulled off a well-received performance with only six rehearsals. Our performance later that year at a fundraiser for the Interfaith Hospitality Network to aid homeless families began a tradition of community service appearances at hospitals, retirement centers, and charity events
In 2006 the chorus was awarded a significant grant from the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Small and Simple Grants program to build our organizational strength and produce “Shilshole on the Pacific Rim,” a concert celebrating our connection to the global community. In 2012 the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs chose us as a recipient of the highly competitive Civic Partners grant.
